Before it became law, we were already asking the question.

In 2008, Beyond Organics® published this poster raising the alarm about chemical sunscreens and their devastating impact on coral reefs. The four chemicals it flagged — oxybenzone, octinoxate, and two others — were barely on anyone's radar at the time. A decade later, Hawaii became the first state in the nation to ban them outright. The science cited here had been published just weeks before this poster went out. Beyond Organics® was paying attention early, and Hawaii was already at the center of the conversation — long before "reef-safe" became a label anyone was shopping for.
